Jim Portman Tournament Information
Welcome to the annual Jim Portman Tournament!
Jim Portman started going to the ballpark to watch his oldest brother play. Between the ages of 16 and 40, he only missed two seasons. Later, Jim coached his own son and when their league was short of umpires he stepped up to help. In 2006, he earned his Softball Canada Level 4 coaching certification at a Canadian Championship. In 2015 he earned his Level C as an evaluator.
2018 marked Jim's eighth year as president of the Minor Umpire’s Association. He’s been a member of the executive for more than 20 years and has served on the executive of the Calgary Minor Softball Association for almost 20 years.
This is Jim's 65th season at the ballpark. Our tournament takes his name as a way to recognize the happiness he brings to everyone he works and plays ball with.
