About Us
Founded in 2016, Calgary Boys Fastpitch was a subcommittee of the Calgary Minor Softball Association and the organizational body for the boys' softball program in Calgary and the surrounding areas. Prior to 2016, the fastpitch softball program for boys under 12 was supported by the geographically-determined clubs within Calgary Minor Softball. The older boys' program was operated by Calgary Minor under the Young Men’s Fastpitch League. Both these programs have been heavily supported in recent years by Nose Creek Softball. For a number of logistical reasons, it was decided in 2015 that all of the Calgary boys' softball teams would come under one umbrella. We are that umbrella. On November 23rd, 2017 we incorporated and were granted society status and became Calgary Boys Fastpitch Association.
Calgary Boys Fastpitch provides fastpitch softball programs for boys aged 8 to 16 (as of December 31 of the previous year). Boys who have turned 17 will be directed to teams at Calgary Industrial Softball Association.
Calgary Minor Softball is divided into several clubs (rather than individual communities). Calgary Boys Fastpitch became the official "club" for the boys' program in December 2015. All our bylaws, association rules and meetings are open to our membership.
We are a non-profit organization run entirely by dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers have been involved with fastpitch softball or baseball at different levels within the City of Calgary for many years. Our primary objective is to provide a fun, safe and educational youth fastpitch softball program with an emphasis on teamwork and skill development. Our ultimate goal is to encourage boys to be active and healthy for life.
Our organization offers softball programs for boys aged 8 to 17 and the program covers city-wide Mite to Bantam Plus categories. At this time, we do not offer a full Midget program. We do not currently have enough boys' teams to operate as a league independent from the girls. Therefore, as league rules dictate, our U14 (Pee Wee) boys play up an age category against other U14 boys and U16 (Bantam) girls. Our U17 (Bantam+) boys play up an age category against other U17 boys and U19 (Midget) girls. At times, we are only able to field one U14 and one U17 boy's team, in which case the boys play against girls' teams only. With the recent reorganization of the boy's program, we are hoping to return registration numbers to a point where the boy's program can operate independently of the girl's program. We do not operate a Learn-to-Play (LTP) program. Any boys wishing to register in LTP should register with their local club. Information about clubs can be found at www.calgaryminorsoftball.com.
We host a number of events and activities over the course of the year, often beginning with skill-specific clinics in January. Spring training is primarily indoors and takes place in March and April. Regular season games are twice a week beginning in May and culminating in city championships at the end of June for U10, U12, and U14 teams and the beginning of July for U17 teams. In September, we offer a fun fall skills clinic for all ages.
For questions about registration, please contact our registrar.
For all other inquiries, please contact our committee chair.
